The Organic Electronics Research Center is proud to announce that its Director and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Ming Chi University of Technology, Dr. Shun-Wei Liu, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). Established in 1841, the RSC is the United Kingdom’s national chemical society and one of Europe’s largest and most venerable professional organizations, with a profound influence on the advancement of chemistry and materials science worldwide.

The FRSC designation is among the highest honors in the global chemical sciences, awarded only to scientists who have made significant, internationally recognized contributions in chemistry or its allied fields, such as materials science and biochemistry. Candidates must be nominated by current Fellows, undergo rigorous international peer review, and demonstrate a sustained commitment to the highest standards of professional ethics. Election to FRSC is not only a testament to scholarly excellence but also a mark of professional stature and global credibility.

For Taiwan—particularly for a scholar from a private university of technology whose research lies in the optoelectronics domain—earning this recognition in a chemistry-centered international arena is exceptionally challenging. Such an achievement often demands two to three times the effort required of peers from globally renowned institutions, overcoming both disciplinary and geographic barriers.

Professor Liu has devoted his career to advancing organic and perovskite optoelectronic materials and devices, achieving world-leading results in displays, sensing technologies, and energy conversion. His research has driven multiple industry collaborations and technology licensing agreements, securing Taiwan’s position in the international landscape of chemistry and materials science. Notably, he is also the first Taiwanese scholar in the optoelectronics field to be jointly appointed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), with an influence that spans Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

This distinction is both the highest affirmation of Professor Liu’s scientific accomplishments and a testament to the Organic Electronics Research Center’s mission to transcend disciplinary boundaries and earn global recognition. The Center will continue to pursue cutting-edge research and foster international collaborations, ensuring that Taiwan remains a visible and respected contributor to the global chemistry and materials science community.
